I obtained my bachelor’s degree in Physics from Virginia Tech where I also took many classes in biology and psychology. I then moved to Arizona where I taught high school AP Physics for several years where I was awarded an NSF sponsored Math and Science Teachers Fellowship. This allowed me to get into the lab and ignited my passion for research. I went on to earn my PhD at the University of Arizona with Dr. Rajesh Khanna studying the regulation of the voltage gated sodium channel NaV1.7 with a focus on targeting this channel to treat chronic pain.
I love science, but when I am not in the lab I use any opportunity to get outside with my wife to go hiking or paddling on a lake or river. I love reading as well as a good movie and am a particular fan of the Star Wars films.
